Building Information Modelling (BIM) forms part of the Government’s Construction Strategy published in May 2011. One of the aims is to require ‘…collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on projects by 2016.’
BIM objects include embedded product information and associated data to support the specification process and provide an audit trail for the components throughout the life of the building.
BIM objects can be incorporated into 3D models and associated component databases.
